Commentary -
Ravi Shastri after all his grunting, has gotten tired and forgets to announce who the Man of the Match is, but Angelo Mathews has been named the MoM. On that note, we take leave, it has been a fine start to the IPL and on behalf of Shashank, this is Srivathsa signing off. See you tomorrow for the double-header. Good night!
Ganguly: We were pretty ordinary in the first 10 overs in both the halves but did well in the other half. We need to make some improvements in the field. We were lucky to get into a winning position despite dropping Gilly twice. There was something in the wicket and our bowlers exploited it towards the later half. We will try and take it as it comes and if we play well the results will take care of itself.
Gilly: We were in the box seat. It was a tremendous start with both bat and ball but we didn't finish the task well. I felt we panicked a little bit in the middle. All credit to the Knight Riders for the way they bounced back. They gave us a few chances but we failed to capitalize.
Herchelle Gibbs gets the 'Best catch of the match' award.
The maximum sixers award goes to Angelo Matthews
What a sensational turn around for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Gilly and VVS took the Chargers off to an explosive start but Kartik pegged them back with some tight bowling, picking up the wicket of Laxman in the process. Gilly was his usual self, blazing away to his 7th IPL fifty but once he fell it was almost like the floodgates opened for KKR. Gibbs, Symonds and Rohit Sharma fell to irresponsible strokes and once that happened they were never really able to recover. Ganguly brought out the best in his boys under pressure and everybody responded to help them make a winning start to the IPL. The overseas players were the stars for the Knights and the credit certainly has to go a 22 year old Sri Lankan, Angelo Matthews for his all-round effort. The Chargers would have to blame their poor strokeplay for the defeat after being 88/1 in 10 overs. Stay connected for the presentation, it shouldn't be a difficult choice for the adjudicators....
19.6 Ishant Sharma to Suman, no run, KKR have won and that is a big, big surprise! Superb start to IPL 3! slower delivery on off, Suman slogs, gets a thick outside edge, falls short of Saha, just in front of him, anyway it does not matter as Ganguly rushes towards Ishant Sharma, we have seen that many times in the past and KKR win by 11 runs!
19.5 Ishant Sharma to Jaskaran Singh, 1 run, low full toss, driven to long on, only a single
19.4 Ishant Sharma to Jaskaran Singh, 2 runs, good length delivery on the middle and leg, swung away to backward square leg, it was destined for the fence, but the substitute fielder puts in a full length dive to his right and keeps it to a couple, magnificent effort, superb stop!
19.3 Ishant Sharma to Suman, 1 run, yorker length delivery, Suman plays it back to the bowler, Ishant Sharma dives to his right, full length, gets theball, Jaskaran Singh and Suman were in mid-pitch, conversing, Ishant Sharma takes aim, all 3 stumps and he misses, what a miss, reminds one of Broad's clanger against Netherlands in the T20 WC
19.2 Ishant Sharma to Suman, no run, fine delivery, speared it in quicker, almost in the block-hole, Suman has a swing, it goes under his bat, Saha collects and runs up to the stumps to prevent the bye
19.1 Ishant Sharma to Suman, no run, beautiful comeback, slower delivery from the back of the hand, Suman is utterly, completely fooled, does not know a thing, beaten!
19.1 Ishant Sharma to Suman, no ball, Oh NO! The first ball is a no-ball and it is a front-foot ball, so a free hit coming up now, it was anywat down the leg side, so a wide would have resulted, Wasim Akram has a grimace on his face in the dug-out
Ishant Sharma [3.0-0-26-1] is back into the attack
17 needed off the last over, where is Mortaza? DC fans would be asking
18.6 Langeveldt to Suman, 1 run, low full toss on off, driven to long on, Hodge is quick and they settle for a single
18.6 Langeveldt to Suman, wide, high bouncer and Suman goes for the hook, way over his shoulder and it is rightly called a wide
18.5 Langeveldt to Jaskaran Singh, 1 run, high full toss on middle, Jaskaran Singh mistimes the flat batted pull to long on, only a single
18.4 Langeveldt to Jaskaran Singh, no run, hurled in short of length, rising delivery, Jaskaran Singh swings and misses
Jaskaran Singh, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Langeveldt to Vaas, out Bowled!! You miss and I hit says Langeveldt to Vaas! length ball on middle, Vaas goes for the ill-advised hoick across the line, does not connect, but Langeveldt connects, clattering into the top of middle, can KKR lose from here? Looks tough, but dont jump into a jig so soon if you are a KKR fan! Vaas b Langeveldt 0(1)
18.3 Langeveldt to Vaas, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
18.2 Langeveldt to Suman, 1 run, The luck is going KKR's way, full toss, slapped back straight down the ground, so straight that it knocks back the stumps at the non-striker's end, they take a single
18.1 Langeveldt to Suman, no run, fired it in wide of off stump, Suman had backed away too much and he had no chance of reaching that, well bowled Langeveldt
Chaminda Vaas, left handed bat, comes to the crease
Charl Langeveldt [3.0-0-22-1] is back into the attack
Shukla to Anirudh Singh, out Caught and Bowled!! The run has been broken - the last ball has got a wicket this time. Another miscued pull, lobs up straight up in the air and Shukla has one of the easiest return catches and he makes no mistake, a completely miscued shot and Anirudh Singh has to perish! Anirudh Singh c and b Shukla 14(14) [4s-1]
17.6 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, THATS OUT!! Caught&Bowled!!
17.5 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, FOUR!!, beautiful shot! picks up the slower delivery and hammers it straight down the ground, got it finally in the middle of the bat and no one will be there straight down the ground to cut that off, top shot!
17.4 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, no run, slower delivery on the stumps, Anirudh Singh taps it to Shukla's right, he dives and cuts off the single, splendid effort from Shukla to keep it to a dot
17.3 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, 2 runs, Anirudh Singh makes room and gets it to long off, ran well and got back for the 2nd
17.2 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, 2 runs, low full toss, driven to long off for a couple
17.1 Shukla to Anirudh Singh, no run, Anirudh Singh is not at all comfortable, plays and misses again, length delivery and he is late on the attempted cut
16.6 Mathews to Suman, FOUR!!, Again the last ball has gone for a boundary! Suman stays in his crease, picks the length delivery, swings hard and gets enough bat on it between midwicket and long on, it was almost a six, one bounce over the ropes, good hit that and DC needed that badly
Sourav Ganguly is extremely animated out there, egging his boys on.
16.5 Mathews to Anirudh Singh, 1 run, Mathews is just bowling like an off-spinner, cuts the ball with his fingers, Anirudh Singh chips it into the outfield, well short off long off
16.4 Mathews to Anirudh Singh, no run, slower delivery again, Anirudh Singh gets some bat on it, taps it straight to the fielder at Point
16.3 Mathews to Anirudh Singh, no run, change of pace outside off, Anirudh Singh misses out, beaten!
Tirumalsetti Suman, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Mathews to Rohit Sharma, out Caught by Hodge!! Mathews is the man for KKR and he is doing it with the ball as well, it was the slower bouncer, bowled it hard into the pitch and Rohit Sharma is utterly bamboozled, is in no position, plays a sort of half hearted pull/forehand/flatbatted unusal shot and Hodge at mid off did well to cup it as it seemed to be going over his head, KKR are on fire now! Rohit Sharma c Hodge b Mathews 13(12) [4s-2]
16.2 Mathews to Rohit Sharma, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
