Commentary -
It was a privilege bringing you this test series. However, this controversy has saddened all those people who follow cricket passionately. This is Sid V, saying good bye on behalf of my colleague Srivathsa.
As a cricket fan, these are very negative and disturbing issues. Lots of questions have been left unanswered. However, one thing is for certain, this issue will not die down as the days go by. This is a massive issue and Cricket, which had a tough time post the match-fixing, has now been plunged into turbulent times once again.
It should be noted that when the media asked the manager whether Pakistan deliberately lost the Sydney test in early 2010, he changed the topic. Both Salman Butt and Yawar Saeed have been hustled away and they have left many questions unanswered. No one spoke about the alleged connection between Salman Butt and Mazhar Majeed, the person who has been accused of spot fixing in this test.
Yawar Saeed: Mohammad Aamer is a supremely talented player and he is very disappointed that he has been involved in this. As far as I am concerned, the ODI series is going to take place. I see no reason why it should be called off.
Pakistan Team Manager Yawar Saeed has also commented on these developments
Salman Butt: These are all allegations. In this situation, anyone can say anything about anyone. However, nothing is proven yet. There is no question of me resigning. Why Should I resign? We managed to win a test against Australia after 15 years and we recently won a test at the Oval. We gave our full 100% in this match, but the conditions were very difficult for us. Just because the results don\'t go in our favour does not mean that these allegations should be thrown at us.
Strauss: It was a really strange day. Cricket was in the news for all the wrong reasons. However, we had a job to do and we went out there and finished the job. Swann bowled really well but the atmosphere out there was very muted. I cannot comment whether the ODI series will continue but that decison will be taken by the PCB, ICC and the ECB. It is disappointing that this victory has been overshadowed by other developments.
Mohammad Aamer is Pakistan\'s Man of the Series for his outstanding bowling display. He was the only bright spot for Pakistan and ended up the leading wicket taker for Pakistan with 19 wickets in the series with two five wicket hauls, including a career-best 6/84 in this test.
Jonathan Trott is England\'s Man of the Series for his consistent batting performance. His 404 runs in the entire series, which included two half centuries and a century here at Lords gave England the upper hand in the whole series.
Stuart Broad is the Man of the Match for his 169 and three wickets in the match. His world record stand with Trott changed the entire state of the match.
It will be a very dull presentation ceremony as the fixing allegations casts a huge shadow over it. The ceremony is being held in the long room and Sid V will bring it to you. Stay connected...
Pakistan\'s batting showed it\'s inexperience and were blown away in the three test matches that they lost. Yousuf\'s comeback helped at the Oval, but here they were decimated by a rampant English attack. Salman Butt played only one knock of note and rarely looked convincing at the crease. If Pakistan have to compete in test matches then it has to overhaul it\'s batting and look at some technically accomplished players back home.
Pakistan only had a few positives and all of them surround their bowling prowess. Aamer, Asif and Gul - when he played made the ball talk. Aamer was impressive and was the man who gave Pak a chance to win their only test of the series. Asif was unlucky - lots of catches were dropped off his bowling - but he really troubled all the batsmen - keeping it nice and simple with his exceptional control of the Duke ball. Riaz too shone on his test debut, though it must be said that he failed to create an impact here.
Lots of positives for England from this series- The return to form of Cook and the dependable Trott - who has looked England\'s best batsman throughout their series. The lower order led by Prior thwarted Pakistan at crucial times in the series when Pak threatened to bowl them out cheaply. There are a few concerns regarding Strauss, Pietersen and Collingwood, but there is still lot of time before the Ashes for that trio to iron out their deficiencies.
This test match would be remembered for all the wrong reasons - the spot fixing allegations has stunned the whole cricketing world. The fixing fiasco takes some sheen off England\'s magnificent win here, but England would be bubbling with vigour and confidence ahead of the mother of all clashes - The Ashes - which is due to start in November.
Pakistan have folded up losing 20 wickets in just a little under 3 sessions. England would never have imagined that this match would pan out the way it did after Pak\'s fine resurgent performance at the Oval. Swann the star on day 4 as he picked up his 1st ever 5 wicket haul at Lord\'s. The test series has ended with England emerging deserving victors in 3 of the 4 tests.
Crushing, emphatic and uttely professional are the 3 adjectives to describe England\'s performance in this test match. After being at 102/7 to seal the victory in the opening session on the 4th day takes some doing. Remember that only 12 overs were bowled on day 1 - which means that England have clinched victory in just about 2 days if you take out the rain interruptions. Broad and Trott were unmoveable and registered a world record stand for the 8th wicket.
36.5 Swann to Asif, out Caught by Collingwood!! There it is! Victory for England and Swann\'s 9th five wicket haul in tests and his first at Lords! Slow, tossed up delivery on the middle and leg stump, Asif goes for the sweep, swings a little too early, gets the inside edge, rolls into the boot, lobs to Colly at first slip who takes the catch, Asif immediately asked for the review, the third umpire has a look and replays confirmed that the ball did not hit the ground at all, the umpire gives it out and this is now Pakistan\'s heaviest defeat in test cricket. 34.4 Swann to Umar Akmal, SIX!!, You have to really appreciate the way he is batting out there, tossed up delivery on the stumps, Umar Akmal gets down, gets underneath the delivery, slog sweeps it high, sails over deep mid wicket, the fan in the crowd drops the catch
34.3 Swann to Umar Akmal, no run, tossed up delivery, spins back sharply into Umar Akmal, he tries to defend it, gets hit high on the pads, rolls to the off side
34.2 Swann to Umar Akmal, no run, flighted delivery outside off, Umar Akmal again dances down the wicket, lofts it hard and flat to long off, KP did not go for the catch, bounces in front of him, maybe he lost the ball in the background
34.1 Swann to Umar Akmal, no run, full, flatter delivery outside off, Umar Akmal gets forward, pushes it to the off side
33.6 Broad to Asif, no run, stays over the wicket, bangs a short delivery on the middle and leg stump, Asif stands tall and just taps it to the off side, he survives, the frustration continues for England
33.5 Broad to Umar Akmal, 1 run, short of length delivery on the pads of Umar Akmal, he hops and tucks it to deep square leg, he walks through for an easy single
33.4 Broad to Umar Akmal, no run, full delivery on the off stump, Umar Akmal taps it to mid wicket, but does not take the single
33.3 Broad to Umar Akmal, no run, maintains that short of length on the stumps, Umar Akmal this time defends it to the leg side
33.2 Broad to Umar Akmal, no run, short of length delivery outside off, Umar Akmal stands tall and defends it to the off side
33.2 Broad to Umar Akmal, wide, Umar Akmal backs away again, Broad follows him with a short delivery on the stumps, Umar Akmal goes for the pull this time and he misses, but the umpire gives it a wide for height
33.1 Broad to Umar Akmal, FOUR!!, Crunching shot from Umar Akmal, I guess he anticipated the length very quickly there, short delivery outside off, Umar Akmal stays on the back foot, clears the front leg, pulls it wide of the mid wicket fielder, races to the deep mid wicket fence
Stuart Broad [4.0-1-9-1] is back into the attack
