Commentary -
That's all we have for you from here. Do join us again for the second test on 20th March. Till then it's good bye from all of us here.....
Swann is the Man of the Match: Cook forget to mention that the support from the Barmy Army has been superb. we were really down on the mat yesterday in the final session when Siddique and rahim were batting wonderfully. It was tough work on a flat pitch but I am extremely happy with my performance.
Cook: Very happy with the team performance. Full credit to the Bangladesh team for playing so well. I did not take the follow on as the bowlers had toiled away all day and they needed the rest. Swann has been a wonderful bowler for the past 12 months and you can't ask for more. The aim is to go 2-0 up.
Shakib: The boys showed a lot of character in the latter half of the game and the track didn't turn much as expected. I regret my decision to bowl first. Cook, Collingwood and Pietersen played well and we couldn't put pressure on them. I think Junaid and Rahim played well in the second innings. Lot of positives to take from this test.
Shakib's decision to field first on a flat track raised a few eyebrows and England made him pay. Cook's decision to not declare with a huge lead in the second innings also raised some questions. Rahim and Siddique batted wonderfully as the contest was dragged into the fifth and final day. Siddique notched up his maiden century and both he and Rahim shared a gutsy 167 run rearguard partnership for the sixth wicket. However, Swann was the difference maker and his maiden 10 wicket haul in the match gave England a comfortable victory in the end. England were made to toil here, but there was no question about the outcome. England win this test match by 181 runs and go 1-0 up in the series.
By taking 10 wickets in the match, Swann becomes the first English off-spinner to take a 10-wicket haul in the subcontinent.
